Critical infrastructure protection in homeland security works with the government and other sectors to ensure each department of the federal government is responsible for the general protection of the government’s critical infrastructure by protecting their own sectors. Municipal and private sectors are encouraged to use grants for purposes of national security and CIP. These grants are put into various uses i.e. for security of rail, port, transit, water training and Urban Areas Security initiative.
The National Protection and Programs created an office for Risk Management and Analysis to carry out effective comparative risk analysis as part of improving the critical infrastructure protection in homeland security. A simple successful attack on the government’s financial service sector and the transport sector could leave devastating effects on the nation as it heavily relies on these sectors to perform various government functions. The fact that all sectors are somehow related poses major risks on the nation’s well being if any of them is attacked.
