CIP has advised publishers to include summary with the application of the CIP data. This violates the subject analysis and other aspects of the catalogue process.
The following are the guidelines which are provided by the publisher for them to supply summaries for non fiction juvenile workers and new adult before the publication.
A summary given the publisher is used to in the catalogue record for by the library of Congress staff and distributed to different libraries.
The CIP data should have the summary. The data are sent to the publisher to be included in the printed book.
The summaries which are provided by the publishers will not be changed or edited. Instead, the summary will either be accepted or rejected when it is submitted. This is based on the compliance with the guidelines.
Any summary which contains obscene or profane language will not be accepted.
Quotation marks will attribute the summary. This is provided by the publisher.
The congress library has the right to remove a summary which is provided by the publisher at any instance.
